On Thursday night, the 8th grade boys basketball team continued their quest to a County Tournament championship. After knocking off Hamilton Southeastern in the first round and beating Noblesville East in the second round, the Huskies were facing the Carmel Pups in the final four. Unfortunately for the Dawgs, Carmel came out with red hot shooting from the perimeter and made four three pointers in the first period. The Huskies were trailing 19 - 8 after the first period. Carmel continued their hot shooting in the second period and made three more three point field goals in the second quarter. The Dawgs continued to fight with Vince Kakasuleff hitting three 3 pointers in the first half to keep the game within reach. At halftime, Carmel had a 33 - 21 lead. The Huskies showed some real grit in the third quarter by outscoring their opponent 14 - 13 in the period. Cooper Hensley was a spark in the second half giving the team some energy and scoring 6 big points. The Huskies trailed by 11 going into the fourth period. Unfortunately, Carmel's hot shooting continued and they hit two more 3's in the fourth quarter to seal the fate of the Huskies season. The final score was Carmel 57 - Hamilton Heights 42. The Huskies were led offensively by Vince Kakasuleff, Nolan Kakasuleff and Cooper Hensley. It was an amazing week for this team as they became the only one in the past 20 years from Hamilton Heights to reach the final four of the 8th grade county tournament. This is a special team with a group of awesome young men. The future is bright for the members of this team including: Grayson Pickering, Nolan Kakasuleff, Vince Kakasuleff, Drew Champion, Carter Berndt, Cooper Hensley, Jace Hilton, Royce Bowyer, Cooper Ballenger, Ryder Holt, Taylor Hartman, AJ Barrickman, Jake Tenbrook & Sebastian Pritsch. Special thanks to the cheerleaders, coaches, parents & fans for all of their support this season. It was an amazing run for our team.
