On Wednesday night, the 8th grade boys basketball team continued their quest to chasing a championship in the County Tournament. Their opponent was Noblesville East, whom beat the Huskies by a few points earlier in the season. So, it was a revenge game for the Dawgs with a Final Four berth on the line. The first quarter of the game was a battle with both teams digging in defensively. Thanks to two 3 point bombs from Vince Kakasuleff, the Huskies were tied 8 - 8. The Dawgs unleashed their defense and battled on the boards to hold Noblesville to only four points in the second quarter. Cooper Hensley came off the bench in the second quarter and gave the team a big lift with 5 points. At halftime, the Huskies were holding on to a 3 point lead by the score of 15 - 12. In the third quarter, the Dawgs took advantage of the aggressive defense of their opponent to get some easy layups. At one point in the third period, the Huskies had an 11 point lead and was in control of the game. In the fourth quarter, the Heights team got loose with the ball and made some turnovers creating a dramatic finish. With the Dawgs hanging on to a one point lead with 10 seconds left, Noblesville got four shots at the rim only to see each one fall out. The Huskies hold on for a one point win and advance to the Final Four of the County Tournament. It was a tremendous effort defensively and rebounding the basketball by the Dawgs. Carter Berndt was an animal on the boards and came up with a huge blocked shot in the final minute. Cooper Hensley played his best game of the season and was huge off the bench. Drew Champion had three big baskets to help offensively. Vince Kakasuleff led the team in scoring and made three bombs to help secure the win. With the victory tonight, the team has achieved a 14 - 7 record against a very difficult schedule. Awesome group of players chasing history and representing their school with an outstanding effort tonight. You see these guys in the hallway or in the classroom cheer them on....they have worked their tails off to earn the opportunity to get to the championship game and make history for the school. Go Huskies!!
