On Monday night, the 8th grade boys basketball team competed in the first round of the County Tournament versus the Hamilton Southeastern Panthers. The Huskies got off to a sluggish start, but played some good defense to take a 10 - 8 lead after the first quarter. The Panthers zone defense continued to give the Dawgs offense some troubles into the second period. The Huskies were outscored 12 - 8 in the second period resulting in a 20 - 18 halftime deficit. With some adjustments made at half & some hot shooting from Vincent Kakasuleff, the Dawgs had a good third quarter. After three periods, the Huskies had a one point lead. In the fourth quarter, it was all Huskies. Nolan Kakasuleff hit 9 out of 10 free throws and Jace Hilton threw in 7 points in the quarter allowing the Dawgs to outscore the Panthers 22 - 6 in the period. The Dawgs defense in the quarter was led by Royce Bowyer with multiple deflections and big plays. The Huskies have advanced to the second round of the tournament and will face off against Noblesville East on Wednesday night @ Carmel Middle School.
